As a prosecutor, Mario Del Prado obtained the first murder conviction in Texas in a case where the body was not found. As a defense attorney, Mr. Del Prado has obtained dismissals in two capital murder trials, convictions on lesser charges in four capital murder trials and, in all of the other capital murder cases he has handled, none of his clients received the death penalty.
One of those cases involved capital murder charges against a 19-year-old mother who was accused of killing her two young children and burying them under her house. The District Attorney personally appeared on television and said that the state would vigorously seek the death penalty against this woman. However, Mr. Del Prado and his co-counsel successfully defended against the death penalty and saved her life.
